When Sandra Coan first asked me to write a post about A Day in the Life, I immediately thought: "there is nothing interesting about my day!" Who would want to know MY day?! I'd bet my husband doesn't even know "my day", lol! Well, simply put, my day is pretty much the same as any stay-at-home mom who runs a small business. The only difference is that I also homeschool my four boys 5 days a week. Which means I not only have the responsibilities and duties of a typical stay-at-home mom such as grocery, cleaning, etc., I also teach my kids from read and write to Geometry. And because I am a woman of very few words, I will show you what my typical day is like using pictures...So here I go:
6:00 am - 9:30 am
Our day starts fairly early in the morning at around 5:45am to 6:00am. During basketball and track and field seasons, the practices start at 7am in the morning.
While the kids are getting sleepy out of their system, I take advantage of this two quiet precious hour to catch up on any work that need my immediate and undivided attention. This is my mobile office on the court side:
10:00 am - 3:00 pm
After the morning sport team practices, we start our daily homework around 10:00 am, if everyone cooperates. The older boys have been "trained" to work independently so I can devote most of my attention to my younger two who still need help with the fundamentals. As you can see, there is no one perfectly set-up designated area for homeschooling. We homeschool almost anywhere: the dinner table, the floor, the bed, the kitchen counter, or in the car (when we have to travel for sports team tournaments and games).
Music can be heard through out the day in our house because practice musical instrument is an integral part of our daily curriculum. I have a pianist and a cellist in the family :)
3:00 pm - 5:00 pm
Library is one of our favorite places! The librarians know every one of my boys by sight and name. We make time to visit the library once every two weeks for our favorite book and series.
With four boys in the house, you can imagine the amount of laundry we have each day. Don't worry, this big pile has been washed and dried. Can someone fold these please??
5:00 pm - 7:00 pm
Most afternoons and evenings, I spent few hours shuttling kids to more "after-school" activities such as Brazilian Jiu Jitsu classes, Cello Lessons and Boy Scout meetings. You will often find me in the corner of a Starbucks burying my face in work while the kids at lessons. Occasionally, I get a little break to catch up on work at home while the kids get some free time outdoors with the neighborhood friends.
Oh shoot!! I forgot something for dinner. Gotta run to the grocery store!
Well, I better get off the computer and prepare dinner. Tomorrow we will do this all over again. See you later friends!
