It's always so fun to get the chance to peek into the life of someone you admire. Many of us know Jon Canlas as the mastermind behind the Film is Not Dead movement, but spend any time with him and it is clear, his number one priority is his family. Catherine captured that connection beautifully in this set of photos! From Catherine:
"I had the pleasure of attending a wedding on Oahu in April, and the timing was just right that I got to bring my family with me too… and my dear friend & brother from another mother Jonathan Canlas offered to let us stay with he & his wife Callie, and their six kids. I had brought all of my cameras with me in case I scheduled any family sessions while on the island, so it only made sense to also document the life that they live out there on Oahu.
I’ve know Jon for about five years now, having traveled with him for a few years while producing the FIND workshops, and have always admired the role he plays as a partner to Callie and as a father to his children. He is one of the busiest people I know, but he always makes sure that his family knows that they are his main priority. When they moved to Hawaii a couple of years back, their sense of family togetherness grew even more with Jon having even more hours of the day to spend with them, and also with the obvious draw of always being outside & doing something when you’re on the islands. I loved spending time with them (even though it was real crazy at times, as you can imagine!), and loved being wrapped up in their world of just being together.
You can find more of the photos that I posted from spending time with them, at:
The cameras that I used are Hasselblad H1, Hasselblad 500c/m, and Canon 1v, all with kodak films… and these were all developed at Richard Photo Lab."
