G-g-gorgous is all I have to say about these maternity photos by Trish Barker! So very lovely!
"So this is Meshay and Brett (and baby Dempsey... they're not sure if they're having a girl or a boy... but have chosen the name Dempsey either way). They are dear friends. I actually did their wedding portraits a few years back and so have known this couple for a while. She is a model, and he is too by association (they are often featured together as a couple for bridal shoots here on Maui). What I love is that they trust me for their REAL photographs. So their real wedding portraits, their real maternity shoot and I am privileged enough to have been chosen to photograph their birth in a few short weeks.
The biggest challenge was really to find a unique way to showcase this beautiful mamma-to-be in a way that wasn't kitschy, or too matronly. She is young and modern and gorgeous and I really wanted to showcase their personalities as best as possible. Our hair and makeup guru, Trisha Joseph
, had send a photo of a pregnant woman wearing a veil, and though I loved the light play that the veil introduced, Meshay was not a pregnant bride and so it wouldn't have made sense. So alternatively, I decided that hanging sheer fabrics and clothesline would be the best way to introduce some fun light play into the mix. But of course, it required sun. Which our initial shoot site did not have. So we changed our shoot location 15 minutes before the shoot. We're lucky we live on Maui and can look outside and drive to where the sun is! It worked out perfectly... the light was divine... the subjects, as you can see, are completely and madly in love with each other and there is a love for this little baby already that you can feel in the photos."
