I'm thrilled to be starting this week off with these whimsical holiday photos by Seattle photographer Catherine Abegg, of CALIMA Portraits. So fun and beautiful! What more could you want from a portrait session?
"This session was actually taken when I had mini-sessions at my studio, as I do every year around the holidays. The thing with those sessions is that they are only 30 minutes, so my strategy is to always take the photo that "matters" right away--you know, the one that Grandma will love--and then after that it's a free-for-all where I let the kids do as they please, and I'm kind of along for the ride. The kids in this photo are my nieces; they came all dressed in their Holiday Best and they looked beautiful… but I loved it when the shoes came off & it was time to dance & laugh & have a few minutes to just celebrate life. I feel like this is what family photography is really all about, but of course it often takes the right client to appreciate that photos are tangible memories that capture what was… even if it is a little bit of dancing & a lot of silliness. And speaking of silliness… that one photo of the three girls where they're holding Christmas ornaments up to their eyes?! Totally unscripted! They did that on their own, being perfectly silly."
