Wendy Laurel is a wedding and family photographer on the island of Maui. She shoots all film, and can't you just tell! I love the way it soaks up all of that sun-shiny color, giving these photos a fresh and fun tropical feel! I also ADORE the Holga images at the bottom of the post! Truly inspired. "This family was on vacation in Maui from all over the U.S. The parents live in Santa Cruz, CA, their daughter in N.Y. city with her husband and two girls, and their son in the Bay Area with his wife and their two sons. Vacationing together is a great way to spend time together and I see it all the time here. It is always fun to see families obviously having such a good time hanging out together.
I love that this family thought a bit about what to wear and came out in a cute somewhat coordinated outfits but very casual and very fun. Shooting a large family on the beach with little children is always a bit chaotic and you just have to roll with the punches and let the kids direct a bit."

The photographer's technique in this session is very unique and innovative! The saturated color, the spontaneity of the subjects (it's like they're running wild!), and the unabashed use of the sun all come together to make this a very funky session! Wendy Laurel is not afraid to use color in her work, and she's not afraid to experiment.
The Holga images (the square, richly colored photos near the end) are especially fun because they're so super-saturated, and even a little messy. They're a tad blurry, have a crazy vignette, and her subjects appear to be doing whatever they want to do, uninstructed. These imperfections become the features of the photographs, and really add to their aura and one-of-a kind-ness. I love it!
